Kitchen House Cleaning Hacks: Range Hood Filters

All you need is a pot big enough to fit half of a range hood filter, water and a 1/2 cup baking soda. Bring the water to a boil, and slowly add the baking soda. Place your greasy range hood filter into the boiling water. (You might have to do one half of the filter at a time depending on the size.) While your hood filters are getting clean, degrease the interior section of the range hood and clean the exterior with an appropriate cleaner.

Let the filter boil in the baking soda water for about five minutes, and watch as the grease and grime start falling away. Repeat with the other half of the filter and then rinse the filter under hot water from your tap until the water runs clear. Let the filter dry and put it back in the hood.

Best Bathroom Cleaning Life Hacks: Natural Shower Cleaner

A lemon is one of the most versatile and effective all-purpose cleaning tools you can use. It’s antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties combined with the mild acids make it one of the best natural disinfectants and cleaners around. And it smells so fresh and clean! All you need for this bathroom cleaner is some kosher salt and a lemon. When you need more DIY and natural cleaning solutions, you’ll find plenty of ideas with our resources for green cleaning.

To banish stubborn soap scum and other build-up in the shower, slice a lemon in half and dip it in a bowl of kosher salt, which adds an abrasive addition to the already-powerful properties. Scrub the glass shower door and the rest of the shower and let it sit for a few minutes while the solution breaks down the build-up. Rinse the whole shower and door with water. Say goodbye to soap scum, mold and mildew and say hello to a citrusy-fresh bathroom.

Great Living Room House Cleaning Hacks: Vodka!

For stains on carpet and upholstery, vodka is hard to beat. Not only is it fabric safe, but it also disinfects and makes short work of even the toughest stains. If you don’t have any vodka, clear rubbing alcohol will give you the same stain-removing benefits. First blot the stain. Second, pour any type of clear vodka onto the stain and let it work its magic. Blot the stain as it dissolves but don’t worry about getting up all the vodka — any dampness that’s left will simply evaporate. What you do with the rest of the vodka is up to you!

Top Bedroom Cleaning Life Hacks: Mattress Maintenance

As part of any thorough bedroom cleaning, it’s time to freshen up your faithful mattress. Your mattress can aggravate allergies and other health problems if you don’t give it a good vacuuming and cleaning periodically. Vacuum your mattress on all sides and add ten drops of your favorite essential oil to a box of baking soda and sprinkle it all over. Your bed will smell awesome, and all those critters and pollutants will be long gone.

Laundry Room Cleaning Life Hacks: Washer and Dryer

If you’ve never done a deep cleaning on your washer and dryer, you’ve got plenty of company. Cleaning your washer and dryer exteriors is pretty straightforward, but for a deep cleaning, you need to follow a good house cleaning hack tutorial. Consider doing this deep cleaning at least quarterly. You’ll keep your washer and dryer in good working condition, get rid of any moldy smells from detergent and fabric softener build-up and even get a better quality wash.
