If you’re like the rest of us, you may have found yourself scrolling happily through TikTok in this last year. The popular video-sharing social media app exploded during quarantine times- and not just for GenZ’s dance moves. #CleaningTok has expanded to include all kinds of ideas and inspiration. It’s fun, it’s entertaining, and it’s addicting!
We’ve collected our top five TikTok cleaning hacks- spanning from “stripping” laundry to easier shower cleans.
1. Stripping towels.
You throw towels in the laundry, wash on hot, throw in the dryer, and they’re good. Right? Well, not according to this trend. The laundry-stripping trend that went viral is blowing our minds (and grossing us out). Simply fill your tub with hot water, toss in the recommended products, and wait. The process is supposed to end with murky water: the remnants of the gunk that’s been lurking in the laundry.
2. Cleaning faucets and showerheads with vinegar.
This hack has been floating around the Internet for some time, but it’s different seeing it in video form. To clean the faucet and showerheads, add white vinegar to plastic bags; submerge the opening in the vinegar and secure the bag with a rubber band. Wait and voila— the vinegar will have extracted and removed all the yuckiness.
3. Deep cleaning a wooden spoon.
It’s been advised that wooden utensils are cleaned after each use with dish soap and hot water. Then they’re patted dry or left to air dry. That seemed good enough until this trend popped up. Watch as the user pours boiling water over a wooden spoon that’s sitting inside a tall glass. You’ll never believe what comes out!
4. Getting to the bottom of burnt pots.
Have you ever torched a pot and it looked like it belonged in the trashcan? Not anymore. This one is super simple. All you need to some dish soap, steel wool, and a lot of elbow grease.
5. Back-saving shower cleaning tip.
This one is for adults with sore backs (um, all of us). Check out how this user repurposed a cleaning tool to save from treacherous, back-bending work.
