Businesses included on the list were chosen by editors and experts from All Business (www.allbusiness.com), a Dun & Bradstreet company, for being the "best of the best" for 2010. The Maids was chosen due to its financial strength, business longevity, and disclosing financial performance representations in Item 19 of its Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD).

To be eligible for the AllStars list, franchise companies had to submit a Franchise Disclosure Document and have at least 25 current domestic franchised units (or 100 company-owned units and five domestic franchise units).

Various criteria were used to rank winners, including franchise unit growth rate, financial strength, system size, years in business, years franchising, availability of financing, and Web (brand) visibility.
