Get organized for the big clean with these essential preparations
It may seem too far off to even think about – but spring will be here sooner than you think. And with spring comes the promise of rejuvenation and renewal. The flowers are blooming, the birds are chirping and the warmer weather suddenly inspires us to do something we’ve been dreading all winter; spring cleaning.
It seems odd to think about spring cleaning in chilly February, but getting prepared now will make tasks less daunting and allow for more time to enjoy the sunshine.
Start on the exterior: Long winters can take a toll on the outside of your home. Walk around your house and make a note of the projects that will need to be tackled. Check the caulking around the windows for cracks and be sure the gutters don’t need to be unclogged. You might even want to consider pressure washing the sides of your home to get rid of dirt and residue from harsh winter weather.
Ready your landscape: It may be too early to start gardening, but it’s not too early to prepare for the lush landscape you’ve been dreaming of all winter. Start by inspecting hoses and replace the cracked or old ones. Clear any debris, fallen tree limbs or leaves out of flowerbeds and off walkways.
Formulate a plan of attack: The best way to prepare for that massive indoor cleaning is to start getting organized. Go room by room and make a list of what needs to be sorted, cleaned or tossed out. Make a list of your spring to-dos and map out exactly what tools you’ll need to do it – cardboard boxes, recycling bins, cleaning products, even gardening tools. If you’re feeling really motivated, go ahead and label your boxes or bins so that come spring time, you’ll know precisely what goes inside them.
Prepare by cleaning the air: All that spring dusting and cleaning will be for nothing if you don’t clean out the dirt inside your duct systems. Avoid this redundancy by getting your ventilation cleaned by a reputable company. Make sure to clean and change air filters as well.
Use these cold winter days to get ready for the Spring. You’ll put yourself ahead of the game while you dream of warmer weather
