How do you know your cleaning service isn’t just moving around dust and allergens? An alarming number of dust mites and allergens find their way into our homes every year, and eliminating them rather than simply dispersing them can be a real chore.
For most families, making things simply appear clean means not having to think about the microscopic monsters living in the bed – out of sight, out of mind and all – but the truth is, one of every four U.S. households has enough dust mite allergens in beds to trigger asthma symptoms, according to the Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. With 34.1 million U.S. residents diagnosed with asthma, and 300 million worldwide, pushing dust isn’t enough.
That’s why we clean for health – we have many clients prone to asthma or allergies or both and they count on us to remove irritants from their home so they can feel good and live comfortably. “There are a lot of opportunities for The Maids to actually collect the dirt and take it away as we leave versus moving it around and making it look clean,” says Jessica Nietzel, sales manager of The Maids of Scottsale, AZ.
Many residential cleaning services use an upright vacuum, feather duster and a cotton cloth. We believe in a combination of efforts that includes environmentally preferred products, HEPA vacuum filters and both microfiber and cotton cloths.
“Using environmentally preferred cleaners helps eliminate the fumes and residual effects that typical cleaning systems emit causing unwanted respiratory experiences,” says Jessica. “We also use a combination of cotton cloth and microfiber cloths. The microfiber cloths pick up 45 percent more dust, dirt and allergens than a standard cotton cloth, allowing our damp dusting methods to result in allergen removal from the home instead of pushing it around with a feather duster.”
We use state-of-the-art backpack vacuums with HEPA filters to ensure that any particle at least 1/240th the diameter of a strand of hair is coming with us. Separate attachments for these mighty machines help us grab 99.9 percent of all dust, allergens, bacteria, pet dander, pollen and other pollutants from not only rugs but curtains, cushions, corners and other lurking crevices.
Cleaning homes top to bottom with our methods helps our customers who may have asthma or allergy problems not only live in a clean environment but have fresh air to breath. With the estimated number of people with asthma growing by more than 100 million over the next 15 years, we’ll have our work cut out for us. For more information, check out this video:
