We get it, it’s March Madness. Workplace productivity is grinding to a halt, as is most of the bandwidth. There’s no reason why you can’t get things done at home, however. It just takes a clever use of commercial breaks. Every March Madness has a Cinderella Story, and this one could be yours. (Yes, you’ll be playing the part of Cinderella, but if you’re lucky, you’ll get to watch The Big Dance.)
The average half-hour of programming has about 8 minutes of commercials built into it, broken down into two or three segments. This leaves you about two to three minutes per segment to clean your house fast. And if 11th ranked UCLA is considered an underdog heading into the Sweet 16, even with the most championships of any school in the country, anything is possible. So throw on your team jersey and get going.
Here are some quick cleaning tips you can do in three minutes or less.
- Unload ½ the dishwasher
- Load the dishwasher
- Sort laundry
- Put a load of laundry in the washer/dryer
- Fold a stack of clothes (see how many you can do during each break)
- Put away clothes
- Empty all trash cans
- Make your bed
- Dust the furniture in one room
- Soak dirty pans in soapy water
- Sweep the kitchen
- Clear off one countertop
- Sweep the bathrooms
- Clean a toilet
- Wipe down a sink
- Vacuum one room
- Empty the litter box or clean the dog bowls
And this is just a start. Once you get going, you may think of several more quick cleaning tips that are specific to your house. You’ll be surprised how much you can get done in such little time. To help break it up, consider printing out this list, cutting the tasks into strips of paper, and drawing a new one with each break. It will save you the time of having to think of the next thing that needs to be done.
At any rate, you’ll be able to enjoy March Madness and have a relatively clean home. Two great reasons to have some friends over and celebrate your alma mater in the way they deserve.
