The American Pet Product Association (APPA) found in a survey that American pet lovers share their homes with 78.2 million dogs and 86.4 million cats. (Need a reference point? In that same year, 2012, there were 73.7 million children in American households). Pets are very much a part of the family, both at home and on the road.
More and more pet owners are choosing to travel with pets, and for good reasons, like the ones below. When a pet carrier is part of your carry-on luggage, you will undoubtedly find other pet lovers who want to be part of your adventure. Not only that, pets have proven time and time again to provide a whole host of health benefits, including lowering blood pressure, increasing immune system strength, decreasing stress and anxiety, and, yes, even reduce allergies.
Because pets need a vacation, too.
In fact, it’s easier than ever to book a vacation with your favorite four-legged-companion. Pet-friendly travel websites are everywhere, and finding hotels and restaurants that cater to furry clientele is getting easier all the time.
Because who wouldn’t want to travel with their best friend?
They greet you every day when you wake up, come home, and enter and exit a room. When a face is always happy to see you, why not bring it along for the ride?
Because leaving pets home is just so hard to do.
It’s more than lining up a kennel or a pet sitter or a family friend; leaving pets at home while you travel can be hard for a number of reasons. It may be hard to enjoy a vacation when you know how much your pet misses you, or wondering if the people who are caring for them are giving your pets what they need. For some, a “guilt trip” is all they need to stay home; as many as 48% of pet owners admit to traveling less in general since acquiring a pet.
Because if you take them, your house will stay clean for that much longer.
Pets or no, we all love coming back to a clean home after a vacation. Give your house a thorough cleaning before you leave (or have a team of experts do it) and you’ll have more reasons to keep traveling with your pets.
Where will you take your pets this summer?
