Michael Adames' hard work as an involved high school senior has paid off: He was awarded the Dick Bishop Memorial Scholarship during the Maids Home Services' 2009 National Convention in Omaha, Neb., on April 18. The Maids is a residential cleaning franchise that cleans for health.

Every year The Maids franchise owners from across the U.S. and Canada attend the national convention to attend business sessions, share ideas with other franchises, and recognize outstanding employees and franchise owners. The Dick Bishop Memorial Scholarship recognizes a Maids employee or their children who is currently enrolled in or entering a degree program at a college, university, community college or trade school. Adames is the son of Juana Tavarez, a team leader for The Maids of Brookfield, Conn., and will receive a $1,000 scholarship. He plans to study criminal justice at the University of New Haven in West Haven, Conn., in the fall.

He currently balances being captain of his school's varsity swim team, a member of the varsity baseball team, and part of the National Society of High School Scholars. He has performed extensive community service, is manager and score keeper of the volleyball team, and volunteers at his church kitchen and at the church summit.

"I am so excited to receive this scholarship," Adames said. "It will help offset some of the costs of attending college, and I'm thankful for that."

Chris Rudolph, franchise partner of The Maids of Brookfield, Conn., was pleased to learn that Adames received the scholarship.

"He has definitely earned this award," Rudolph said. "He is a motivated young man, and I have no doubt that he will go far."
