THE MAIDS Home Services in New York City, a professional residential cleaning service franchise that servicesBrooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island and the Bronx and owned by Ms. Gale St. John of Brooklyn, recently received the highest honor for a new franchise within THE MAIDS Home Services system, the Start-up of the Year award for 2006.
Ms. St. John received the prestigious international award at THE MAIDS Home Services National Convention, March 3, 2007, in Las Vegas. The Start-up of the Year award, given to a franchise that has recently completed its first full year in business, represents achievement for franchise growth, profit, quality of service, professional image and overall contributions to THE MAIDS Home Services franchise system.
Ms. St. John typifies the American entrepreneurial dream and spirit. She bought the business with a strong desire to make things better for her and her family. She is determined, tenacious and delightful with unparalleled humility and best of all, she loves what she does. She is zealous about her employees, her customers and providing quality service.
As a THE MAIDS franchise partner, she went where no franchise partner in 25 years had gone before… into an urban market and none other than in New York City. As the first owner in an urban market, Ms. St. John paved her own path, working with the franchisor, THE MAIDS International, to develop and put into action the first urban model. She purchased passenger vans instead of the traditional The Maids cars and linked teams with drivers to combat the city’s lack of parking. She also overcame high rent issues by running the business from the basement of her brownstone home instead of the typical commercial location. She tackled high rise apartments, small studio spaces and condos, instead of the more traditional suburban home.
Although she was the leader creating her own path, Ms. St. John attributes her early franchise success to her employees.
