John and Elaine Gibbs, Austin, Texas

Start Date:1994
Education:John: BS Chemistry
Elaine: BS Accounting
Previous Career:John: USAF Officer and Fighter Pilot
Elaine: Payroll Specialist

Colonel John Gibbs retired from the Air Force in 1994, and at that time, he and his wife, Elaine, wanted to own their own business and become their own bosses. They used their previous career experience to grow The Maids Home Services of Austin to 50 team members who clean thousands of homes each year. In 1997, the Gibbs' received the "Franchise of the Year" award, the highest honor from corporate headquarters. This award recognizes overall excellence in all areas of franchise operations: sales, customer service, growth and profit, employee relations, and business operations. With their professional dreams taking hold, the Gibbs' fulfilled their personal dream in 1999, when they purchased a ranch in Central Texas.

"We wanted a very good chance at success so we researched franchises with proven records. Once we looked into the maid service business and we put together the numbers, the potential was amazing. Elaine and I believed it was something that we could succeed in by using our previous skills."

"The qualities I acquired in the Air Force in leadership, planning and management have all come in handy in running our own business. There isn't a day that goes by when I don't use all of these skills and I'm thankful for the experience and education the Air Force gave me."
